Correspondence
A letter in Italian from Dr Felice Finzi to Wilhelm Bleek, dated 15 October 1869. Finzi praises Bleek's "Catalogue" and "Comparative Grammar", admiring his devotion to the science of language. He writes regarding his own work on Australian languages, seeking Bleek's views on filiation, as he finds Norris's arguments unconvincing. He references Bleek's unpublished "Catalogue Vol. II Part I. Australia" (1857) and asks how Bleek's "Memoria" concludes, wishing to discuss it further. Finzi encloses a vocabulary list (or "glotte") from a South West Australian dialect and asks for help identifying its linguistic group. He promises to send more once compiled. In a postscript, he explains that while he wrote in Italian he would welcome a reply in English or German.
