Summary
A draft letter by Wilhelm Bleek, dated 9 April 1872, written in response to a request from the Colonial Secretary on behalf of the Governor, Sir Henry Barkly, for a statement of expenses incurred in the performance of his Bushman research. In outlining the "direct" expenses, Bleek explains the high cost is due to the need to ensure the Bushmen's health and well-being, as they arrived in Mowbray in a weak condition.
