Summary

A letter from Wilhelm Bleek to Lucy Lloyd, from Cape Town and dated 1 October 1863. Wilhelm asks Lucy about her last "attack of weakness" and expresses his and Jemima's happiness that she has written to a doctor about her health, and their hope it can be restored. He decribes the situation at home caring for the baby, the nurse having left, and describes the baby and her appearance. He also describes in detail Jemima's routine while caring for "Miss Edith", and his own daily activities at the house, including his interactions with Nellie and Bella Lloyd. He discusses the family's plans for moving to a new house and the progress of the Grey Library. He also refers to his and Jemima's belief in "Development Theory" with regard to Edith's growth.
