Summary

Dorothea Bleek's answers to a survey of publications on Bushman language, sent to her by Dr Clement M Doke. In it Bleek describes the current state of the field of Bushman studies, naming the individuals who have studied Bushman languages, which languages they studied and where (including "Specimens" and her own language studies). Her answers include a literature review, with annotations and additional publications noted. Dorothea ends the survey by acknowledging the "hopeless task" of encouraging the "literary development of these languages", as those who speak them are "rapidly being absorbed into other, stronger races" or "dying out".
