For eight years, Wilhelm Bleek (1827-1875) attended a gymnasium in Bonn. Bleek undertook tertiary studies from 1845 to 1851, enrolling with Bonn's theology faculty for his first course in the winter semester of 1845/6 (Bank, 2006: 15-16). He moved across to 'Berlin University' (i.e., the Friedrich Wilhelm University of Berlin) in his third year of undergraduate study, returning to Bonn in the summer semester of 1849 and concluding his 'final semester of formal study' there in the winter of 1850/1 (Bank, 2006: 18). Bleek graduated with a PhD in Linguistics from Bonn in 1851.
