Notes
There is a seven-line German inscription on the back that is not easy to decipher: "For Jemima from [of?] Gustchen's mother, probably before her engagement . . ."17 In pencil below is a later entry in a different handwriting: "Grossmutter Bleek." A foxed copy of the same cabinet print in the Oakleaf Album is inscribed on the back in pencil: "Auguste Bleek, née Sethe."
