The National Library of Australia notes that of the several volumes, each issued in several parts, Vol. 1 was issued in 3 parts and Vol. 2 in 5 parts. Also, each 'part' has separate pagination except parts 1-2 of Vol. 1 and parts 4-5 of Vol. 2. Part 1 of Volume 1 concerns South Africa (within the limits of British influence); part 2, Africa (north of the tropic of Capricorn); and part 3, Madagascar (by WHI Bleek and J Cameron).
Part 1 of Volume 2 concerns Australia; part 2, Papuan languages of the Loyalty Islands and New Hebrides (by WHI Bleek and Sir G Grey); part 3, the Fiji Islands and Rotuma (with supplements to parts 1 and 2 [by Bleek and Grey]); part 4, New Zealand, the Chatham Islands, and the Auckland Islands (by Bleek and Grey); and part 4 (a continuation), Polynesia and Borneo. Part 1 of Volume 3 (1862) concerns historical Latin manuscripts and South African 'native literature'.
