The reverse side of page 4, with 'A. de Smidt' written in the top margin with blue coloured pencil (the same as with page two's 'Sir G. Strachan'). The name written is perhaps Abraham de Smidt (1829-1908), Surveyor-General of the Cape Colony, or the colonial engineer, Adam de Smidt (Abraham's relation).
